Group Interview

In a group interview, you'll gather with other job candidates
to be interviewed simultaneously.
A group interview provides the company with a sense of your leadership
potential and style, and how you interact with your peers.
For example, are you timid or bossy? Are you attentive? Do you
seek attention? Do others turn to you instinctively or do you compete
for authority? Must you demand respect or do you command it by
nature?
During a group interview, the lead interviewer might call on you
to discuss an issue with the other candidates, form a team from
among other candidates to solve a problem collectively, or discuss
your particular qualifications in front of all the other candidates.
A group interviewer might also try to reveal your power of persuasion
through exercises or discussion.
For example, do you use argumentation and careful reasoning to
gain the support of your peers or do you divide and conquer?
This environment might seem overwhelming or hard to control. But
there are a few tips that will help you navigate the group interview
successfully:
- Observe to determine the dynamics the interviewer establishes
and try to figure out the rules of the game. If you are unsure
of what is expected from you, ask for clarification.
- Treat others with respect, while exerting influence over them.
- Avoid overt power conflicts, which will make you look uncooperative
and immature.
- Keep an eye on your interviewer throughout the process, so
that you don't miss important cues.
- Send a thank you note to each
of your group interviewers.
