Resume Section Headings
In modern versions of traditional resumes, headings (and subheadings)
are used to separate and prioritize essential information, as it
pertains to the specific job for which the applicant is submitting
a resume.
Resume headings also serve as visual cues to the reader, that
one section has ended and another has begun.
Headings can be centered:
Professional Experience
Or flush left:
Professional Experience
They may be underscored for added emphasis:
Professional Experience
Or set off by horizontal lines:
Resume Headings to Consider
- Skills
- Special Skills
- Education
- Specialized Training
- Qualifications or Profile
- Career Accomplishments
- Professional Experience or Work History
Resume Heading Order
In all modern resumes, information is prioritized according to
importance, with the most relevant—as it relates to the specific
job—appearing first.
For example, if you are a recent graduate with little work experience
in your chosen field, then your Education section is more important
than your Professional Experience section. Subsequently, your Education
section would precede your Professional Experience section.
On the other hand, if you have several years of solid work experience
in your field, then your Professional Experience section would
come before your Education section.
